DUNN COUNTY -- A traffic stop for unsafe lane deviation has resulted in a conviction for 6th Offense OWI for Luke Bassler.
A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle on June 13, 2020 shortly before 2a for unsafe lane deviation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Luke Bassler, and according to the press release from the State Patrol, Bassler showed signs of impairment.
Bassler was taken into custody and charges were filed against him in Dunn County Circuit Court. Bassler appeared most recently on February 3, 2022 for a sentencing hearing regarding his conviction of Operating While Intoxicated 6th Offense.
The remaining charge of Operate With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration filed against Bassler was dismissed and read in at a plea hearing that was held in September 2021 according to online circuit court records.
The Court ordered Bassler to serve a 3 year sentence on this 6th OWI conviction; 1.5 years of initial confinement in state prison, to be followed by 1.5 years of extended supervision.
Online court records indicate that Bassler’s blood alcohol level was .247. Conditions of supervision will require Bassler to maintain absolute sobriety and he will not be allowed to enter bars, taverns, or liquor stores.
The Court also ordered Bassler to follow programming recommendations of his agent, complete an Alcohol Other Drug Assessment and driver's safety plan, and pay over $2,600 in costs and fees.
