Fifteen years ago, there was a Hardee's located on the south side of Spooner. It did a bang-up business for years. Then McDonald's moved into the city, located on the corner of a bustling intersection that captured the majority of people driving through town. Hardee's slowly sunk into oblivion.
The building sat vacant for a long time before the first owners of the Spooner Family Restaurant opened their completely refurnished eatery.
Eventually, those owners moved to a new restaurant in a different location. A young couple, Lira and Naim (Ni-am), took over and became part of the community's fabric.
Fast forward to our current time and circumstances. You'll see that they've done what no other restaurant in town was able to do by adding a completely new addition to their already full menu. Still, they also re-installed the Hardee's drive-thru window, the same window that generated so much traffic in its heyday.
Their entire menu, plus their new Mexican menu are available seven days a week from 7a to 8p both inside they've recently reopened the restaurant and the new/old drive-thru.
New drive-thru specials are Mexican rice bowls, burritos, tacos, and salads. First, you chose which of the four items you'd like, then you can select your rice, your beans, and your meat, and then top it off with a choice of two of the six toppings available.
Looking for something light? How about chips and salsa, or chips and guacamole?
If you're hungry for something sweet, how about a shake or a malt, or strawberry shortcake or a sundae, a banana split, some pie, cake, or a cookie? That's right; all items available at the drive-thru.
The drive-thru also includes their half sandwich specials that come with soup and fries. You can order sandwiches like a patty melt, a Frisco or a Mediterranean melt, Even a Frany melt, then add your choice of soup, and you get fries.
How about a gyro or hot turkey or beef or maybe a Philly steak?

If you already know what you'd like, you can simply give them a call at 715- 635-3565, and they'll have it ready when you want to pick it up either in the restaurant or for those of you who are still cautious, the drive-thru. Be assured that inside is immaculately clean with wipe-off menus. Every other table in the dining area that seats typically 125, now reduced safely to half that many.
Wait staff and cooks wear masks, and tables are wiped continuously clean and disinfected.
Another recent addition is their accommodation of special dietary needs like gluten or lactose-free foods etc. Just tell the wait staff to let the kitchen know, and your needs will be met.
The Spooner Family Restaurant has bent over backward to assure you that they are ready to serve you and your family, either inside or out. And they're proud of how vibrant Spooner's south side still is with shops reopening as they welcome the new Tractor Supply store.
