Ten Years In The Making, Shell Lake's ATV Campground Is Up And Running, And A Credit To Its Creators

Back in 2009, Shell Lake took a pass on a large chunk of money when some Shell Lake citizens voiced their disapproval for a proposed ATV campground in their town.

Andy Eiche, Shell Lake City Administrator, and Mayor Sally Peterson put their heads together to create a plan that they hoped one day would come to fruition; an ATV campground that would be the very best in the area.

Each time money became available, the city would advance their long-range plans. Land became available from the Shell Lake Cemetary Association that was virtually unusable due to its rugged nature. Once the fifteen and a half acres were procured, work could begin.

Ten years later, Shell Lake can boast of its million-dollar campground complete with twenty-eight wooded sights, each with its own electric, water, and sewer service.

A large, centrally located bathroom with showers is near the pavilion, and extra parking is provided for trailers and vehicles.

The area boasts three metal signs at each entrance, tall enough to drive under, made by the Lakeland Company out of Cumberland, who operate as factory-direct steel fabricators.

This campground will operate in tandem with the Shell Lake Campground located on the lake, and information on both sites is available by calling 715-468-7679.

Rentals are $35 a night, and the beginning and end of the season will be weather dependant. At this time, there will be no winter camping, and a grand opening is planned for June 2020.

In case you're unable to drive through the facility yet this year, we've included a video. Turn up the volume and enjoy Shell Lake's venture into its latest classy recreation facility.
