Press Release

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center received several calls of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Hwy 53 from the Rice Lake exit.

The vehicle traveled five miles in the wrong lane of traffic before being stopped by the Barron County Highway Department workers near Hwy W on Hwy 53.

The driver was 16, had a learners permit and did not have another driver in the vehicle with her. Several citations were issued and deputies transported her to her residence following the stop.

Special thanks to the Barron County Highway Department workers who were working in a work zone on Hwy 53 (not expecting a car to enter their work zone from the wrong direction), for their quick thinking and dedication to keeping our roads safe.
