MADISON, Wis. -- Sen. Rob Stafsholt (R - New Richmond) released the following statement on passage of Assembly Bill 932 and Assembly Bill 316 in the Wisconsin State Senate:
The first bill, Assembly Bill 932, would utilize $20 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to increase the number of approved apprenticeship programs, promote the Youth Apprenticeship program in schools that currently have little or no participation, direct additional funding to the Apprenticeship Completion Award Program, and provide funding to bridge the connections between the Youth Apprenticeship Program and apprenticeship programs.
"The number of people going into the trades has been steadily declining for years and it has become increasingly more difficult for employers to find and hire skilled workers. This bill will provide funding to expand the apprenticeship program and encourage more people to enter the trades. An increase in resources for apprenticeship programs for youth and adults alike will help get the individuals who seek those pathways into solid, family-supporting careers.”
The second bill, Assembly Bill 316, was introduced in May, 2021. It prohibits Governor Evers, the Department of Health Services, local governments and any governmental entity from discriminating against any person based on whether the person has received a COVID-19 vaccine, or is able to show proof of having received such a vaccine. This bill does not impact private business owner’s ability to make decisions on what is required in their business.
“My legislation is not about whether people should or should not get vaccinated. Anyone that wants to get vaccinated, should get vaccinated. This is about preventing government overreach. It returns vaccination and testing decisions back to the individuals and maintains their medical information privacy. The bill simply prohibits government from denying any individual access for government run programs based on their vaccine status.”
Both bills have passed the Senate and Assembly and now head to the Governor for his signature.
