'Spring Into Action' Set For This Saturday!

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Community First Washburn County announces their project - WashCo Grows - has collaborated with local partners to host a “SPRING INTO ACTION” build day for community raised-bed gardens on Saturday, June 4 from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Washburn County Fairgrounds in Spooner.

A grant was secured through Essentia Health and Washburn County Community Alliance for Prevention - AODA Prevention Grant to build 10 raised beds to be housed in communities through-out Washburn County.

Locations for the beds are:

  • Shell Lake – Senior Center and Shell Lake Arts Center
  • Trego – Trego Town Hall
  • Minong – Comfort Food Pantry
  • Spooner – Spooner Memorial Library, Spooner Business Center, Railroad Park and Spooner Senior Center
  • Birchwood – Birchwood School

WashCo Grows is seeking volunteers to assist with building beds, planting and maintenance. Business, Groups or Individuals wishing to build a bed, sponsor a bed, or volunteer can sign up by emailing WashCo Grows Co-Chairman Angie Bodzislaw at spoonerlibrarydirector@gmail.com . Each team for building will need four members. Additional teams are need for planting and maintenance. If you need an alternative date to build a bed, please contact Angie. Lunch will be served for all participants.
