Spooner Woman Enters Plea On Charges Of Driving Under the Influence Of Drugs

WASHBURN COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A Spooner woman has entered a plea and been sentenced on a Washburn County case charging her with driving under the influence of drugs. In July 2022, Keiona Oppel-Bailor, 18 years of age at the time, was arrested by a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper following a traffic stop.

On July 3, 2022, shortly after 12 AM, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in the city of Spooner, WI, after observing the car operating without the required lamps lit. The driver was identified as Keiona.

The Trooper observed signs of impairment from Keiona and conducted field sobriety testing. Ultimately Keiona was arrested for operating under the influence with a child in the vehicle under 16, according to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Online circuit court records show that on June 1, 2023, a non-criminal citation for Operating With Restricted Controlled Substance, 1st Offense, was filed against Keiona in Washburn County Circuit Court, stemming from the July 3, 2022 incident date. Information on the delay in filing the charge was not listed in online court records.

On June 19, 2023, Keiona was found guilty as charged due to a no-contest plea. She is ordered to pay over $900 in court costs and assessments, and her driver’s license is to be revoked for 6 months. She is also ordered to undergo an alcohol assessment.
