A Spooner woman, Cheryl Denomie, 51, has been charged with felony bail jumping in Sawyer County Court for violating the terms of her bond on felony charges of forgery. Denomie violated her bond when she was arrested on November 5, 2017, for domestic disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property in Washburn County.
Denomie was originally charged for forgery on February 7 of this year for cashing several checks drawn on another person’s account, according to the criminal complaint filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court.
A bank employee at Chippewa Valley Bank in Winter notified the victims that checks were being cashed from their account that were out of sequence and seemed suspicious, the complaint stated.
The victims notified law enforcement that they, “Had earlier found that someone had burglarized their home and they believed that a booklet of older checks may have been taken,” the complaint said.
The victims knew the boyfriend of Denomie, a Darrin Lee Roberts, and had met her one day at their residence when she stopped by with Roberts.
According to the complaint, Roberts and Denomie cashed checks at the Winter Cooperative in the amount of $150 each, and that Denomie also cashed a check at the Indianhead Credit Union in Spooner for over $1,000.
A Sawyer County Deputy investigating the check cashing arrived at the Winter Cooperative where he received copies of the cashed checks and a flash drive with video surveillance of Denomie and Roberts cashing the checks.
Representatives at Indianhead Credit Union told deputies they believed the check cashed there was forged.
Roberts was charged for felony forgery and misdemeanor theft in the case, but his charges were later reduced to misdemeanor theft and he pled guilty due to no contest. He was fined restitution of $165 and paid the fine and costs.
On November 5, 2017, at approximately 7:18 a.m., a Washburn County deputy was dispatched to a residence on State Hwy 70 in reference to a report of a female subject on the highway, according to the complaint. The complainant reported a female wandering on the highway and she was crying. He also reported she appeared to be hiding in the ditch and was only wearing shorts or underwear and a red sweatshirt.
A deputy arrived at the residence in that location and noticed a lamp outside of the main door, screens off of the windows, a rug lying on the ground and a broken window.
Cheryl Denomie was found in a bedroom sitting on a bed and crying. Denomie had blood on her shirt, face and arms. Denomie appeared intoxicated, according to the complaint.
Denomie admitted to officers that she had thrown things, broke the window and thrown the rug outside. Denomie told officers that she cut her wrist on the broken window, according to the complaint.
Darrin Lee Roberts and two other persons were at the residence at this time. They told the same story according to the complaint, that Denomie was intoxicated, was out of control and needed to be removed from the residence.
Denomie faces charges in Washburn County for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. She appears in court on these charges on February 12, 11:15 a.m.
She appears in Sawyer County on January 9, 2018, 11:00 a.m., to face the forgery charges, which she faces six years in prison, and the new felony bail jumping charge, which she faces an additional six years in prison.
