Spooner Man Ordered To Serve Prison Time For Possession Of Child Porn

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Mark Dezek, of Spooner, WI was sentenced to prison at a hearing on April 22, 2019 in Washburn County Circuit Court regarding his criminal convictions of possessing child pornography.

DrydenWire.com reported on February 28, 2018, that Dezek was facing charges following an investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), assisted by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal complaint filed against Dezek states that Dezek admitted to investigators that there may be images of child pornography on his phone and that he thought the children in the images were aged 7 to 16 years.

In the process of executing a search warrant at Dezek’s residence, investigating officers also found nearly 600 grams of marijuana; numerous marijuana seeds; over 600 gem bags (of the type used for packaging controlled substances); 2 smoking bongs; 2 marijuana grinders; and numerous other assorted items of drug paraphernalia.

Dezek was charged with 10 Counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography; Class H Felony Manufacture THC (Marijuana) More Than 200 Grams but not More Than 1,000 Grams; Misdemeanor Possession of THC (Marijuana); and 2 Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

According to online circuit court records at a hearing in February 2019, the Court accepted pleas of No Contest from Dezek on 2 counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography as well as his charge of Class H Felony Manufacture THC (Marijuana). The remainder of his charges were dismissed but read-in. The Court revoked Dezek’s bail during the February hearing.

At Dezek’s sentencing hearing on April 22, 2019 the Court ordered an 8 year sentence on each of his convictions. Dezek is to serve 3 years of initial confinement in state prison, followed by 5 years of extended supervision, with credit for 70 days served. The Court ordered that Dezek will serve the three sentences concurrently.
