Spooner Health Receives Citation Free Level IV Trauma Recertification

SPOONER, WI -- In July, the Emergency Services team at Spooner Health underwent a rigorous survey to evaluate their ability to provide Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) to trauma patients. As a designated Level IV trauma center, Spooner Health’s team must be trained in and follow many protocols to achieve this designation. Verification of these skills and protocols is conducted every three years by the American College of Surgeons. The goal of a Level IV trauma center is to stabilize an injured patient and arrange their transfer to a higher level of care. In rural Wisconsin, it is imperative to have well trained staff and hospitals who can react quickly during an emergency.

“Our citation free survey is due to the exceptional work of our entire team. Their incredible assessment and trauma care skills allow us to provide the absolute best care for trauma patients; to stabilize them until we can get them to a higher level of care.” Rebecca Wallin, MSN RN, Emergency Services Director, Spooner Health

Wallin has led several trauma prevention initiatives since her start at Spooner Health in March of 2022. Her goal is always to prevent a traumatic event from ever happening in the first place which means spreading prevention messages to the community. Wallin and her team have shared prevention messaging on the radio, social media, and in-person programs including a Teddy Bear Clinic at the Spooner Memorial Library focusing on trauma prevention for families.

“We are proud of our entire emergency services team here at Spooner Health. The combined expertise of Rebecca and Dr. Tamara Daniels, MD, ED Medical Director, have improved our trauma program significantly.” Clint Miller, BSN RN, Chief Nursing Officer, Spooner Health
