CAMERON, WI - A shocking incident unfolded on Monday, June 5th, 2023, when authorities received a distressing call reporting a stabbing in Barron County.
At 8:46 a.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call from a distressed female who stated that her son had stabbed her in the neck area. The woman managed to escape the house while her son remained inside.
According to a press release from Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, upon receiving the call, deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department swiftly responded to the scene, accompanied by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Chetek Ambulance, Cameron Fire Department, and Life Link Helicopter. The situation required a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of all involved.
At the residence, the Barron County Sheriff's Department took 30-year-old Michael Townsend into custody without incident. He is currently being held in the Barron County Jail, awaiting formal charges to be filed by the Barron County District Attorney's office.
The victim, identified as a 54-year-old female from Cameron, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Eau Claire for immediate medical attention. Her condition is reported to be serious.
The Barron County Sheriff's Department has taken the lead in the investigation, with support from the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Team.
The motive behind the alleged stabbing remains under investigation.
