BURNETT COUNTY -- A vehicle and body were discovered in a "heavily wooded area" in Burnett County that had allegedly been there for "at least 48-hours prior to being discovered", according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office.
(Press Release) -- On Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:10, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single-vehicle crash on County Road A near East Devils Lake Road in the Town of Meenon. Electric utility crews working on overhead lines in this area discovered the crash and called 911.
Initial investigation indicates that a 1997 BMW coupe had been travelling westbound on County Road A when it left the roadway as it entered a curve west of East Devils Lake Road, entered the ditch at a high rate of speed, became airborne and overturned before landing in a heavily wooded area.
The crash was not visible from the roadway, and initial investigation indicates that the crash had likely occurred at least 48 hours prior to being discovered.
The driver of the BMW was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Burnett County Medical Examiner; the driver’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of relatives.
Webster Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance also responded to this incident.
No further information will be released at this time; investigation and crash reconstruction continues by the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.
