WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Washburn County Sheriff's has issued the following press release regarding the situation in Birchwood on Monday.

On September 1st, 2022 at about 11:30 a.m., Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, and Birchwood Police Department were notified by the Barron County Sheriff’s Office that they had information regarding a burglary suspect that was possibly in the Village of Birchwood at a residence.
The male is suspected of committing burglaries in Barron County. Barron County Sheriff’s Office had additional information that the suspect was reported to be armed with a firearm. Investigators from Washburn and Barron County went to the area to attempt to locate the suspect. Contact was made with a person outside of the residence that confirmed the suspect was inside the residence with another male and female.
Due to the residence's proximity to the Birchwood School, Birchwood Police Chief ordered the evacuation of the school before law enforcement took further action on the residence. Additional Washburn County Deputies responded to the area along with Special Response Teams from Washburn, Burnett, and Sawyer Counties.
Occupants were ordered out of the residence, and two males were taken into custody and transported to the Barron County Jail.
Also, assisting in this incident were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Birchwood Fire / EMS, and Life Link air ambulance.
Names are not being released at this time pending the investigations in Barron County.
