POLK COUNTY -- Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak issued the following press release today, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, regarding the recent storm that swept through our area.
Press Release
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management staff is documenting the storm events that occurred on Monday, May 9th, 2022. Polk County had two storm events that caused extensive damage to properties in Polk County.
We also had one known non-life-threatening injury as a result of these storms. Currently, the National Weather Service is evaluating the storm damage to confirm if the damages were caused by tornadic activity.
Polk County Emergency Management immediately started assessing the damage caused by these two storms. Large hail, strong winds, and heavy downpours caused damage to farms, dwellings, businesses, and vehicles.
Many residents were without power for several hours. Power has been restored to most residents at this time.
Polk County has shown once again how resilient our community is. It was amazing to watch people chip in and help those who were affected by the storms. It also shows how storms are unpredictable and the need for people to stay prepared for ever-changing weather conditions.
