Sheriff: Four Serious Crashes Over Weekend In Barron County

BARRON COUNTY — A Truck vs Train crash, a Pedestrian vs Vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality, a 4-Wheeler vs Tree crash with serious injuries, and a Single-Vehicle Rollover crash all occurred over the weekend in Barron County, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.

On Friday, August 14, 2020, at 3:49 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a truck vs train crash on 23rd Street just north of Hwy 8 east of Cameron.

Upon arrival a truck driven by Trevor Christman, age 31 of Ladysmith, failed to yield to a train and was struck by the train. Christman was extricated from his vehicle and transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Cameron Police Department, Cameron Fire Department, Lakeview Medical Center Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter.


On Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 9:15 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a car vs Pedestrian accident on County Road I west of Chetek.

Initial investigation shows a female, Amanda Hodgson, age 35 of Chetek, was crossing the road and was struck by a vehicle driven by Joel Hayes, age 44 of Menomonie. Hodgson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The accident is being reconstructed by the WI State Patrol.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Chetek Police Department, Chetek Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, Life Link Helicopter and Barron County Medical Examiner.


On Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 3:24 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a 4-wheeler vs tree crash on 9 1⁄2 Street north of Prairie Farm. Initial investigation shows a 4-wheeler failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree and was ejected off the 4-wheeler.

The 4-wheeler was drive by Dustin Pollack, age 33 of Lansing, MI. Pollack was flown to an Eau Claire hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the WI DNR.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Mayo Ambulance, Almena Fire Department, Life Link Helicopter and WI DNR.


On Sunday, August 16, 2020, at 12:57 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department was advised of a one vehicle roll over on 26th Avenue west of Mikana.

Initial investigation shows a 16 year old female lost control of her vehicle and rolled several times. She was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Rice Lake Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is a contributing factor to this crash and the crash is being handling by the WI State Patrol.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Lakeview Medical Center Ambulance, Birchwood Fire and WI State Patrol.

All the above accidents remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and the respective agencies that assisted.
