Set Your Clock Back: Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday

It’s that time of the year again, and a sign that winter is coming, as Daylight Saving Time ends at 2a Sunday, November 5, 2023. The annual change occurs during the first weekend of November.

The end of Daylight Saving Time means we "fall back" one hour and gain one hour of sleep. Although there may be some that wake up in the early hours on Sunday to change their clocks (who are those people?), the overwhelming majority of Americans turn their clocks back on Saturday night.

Speaking of Saturday, this will be a good time to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The National Fire Protection Association says three out of every five home fire deaths occurred when smoke detectors were either not present or were not working properly. Approximately 500 people are treated at hospital emergency rooms across the state annually for carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Also, if you have an emergency kit at home, Saturday would be a great time to check for expired products or items that may have been borrowed for other purposes and need to be replaced.

Have a furnace or wood-burning stove? This time of year is a good time to get those inspected, before the colder weather sets in.

Daylight Saving Time returns on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
