MADISON, WI - This week, Senator Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Cameron) took two key committee votes to advance legislation to ensure more money for the City of Superior and the Superior School District.
On Monday, he voted alongside members of the Senate Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections and Consumer Protection to recommend passage of Senate Bill 301, commonly known as the shared revenue bill. This legislation sends more state aid to cities, villages, towns, and counties throughout the state without raising taxes. Douglas County and its cities, towns, and villages will also see a guaranteed 20% increase, with some communities receiving even more.
On Tuesday, he voted with the Senate Committee on Education to recommend passage of Senate Bill 330, which increases the revenue ceiling for school districts to $11,000. This will help to even the playing field for the School District of Superior, which currently can only raise up to $10,004 per student. Additional aid, such as per-pupil and special education increases, have been negotiated between both houses of the Legislature and the Governor and will be coming soon through the state budget.
“The two bills I voted for this week will bring $5.9 million to Superior and its schools to be used in the classroom and also for public safety, roads, and whatever else remains a priority for its residents,” said Senator Quinn. “I am proud to strongly support this massive influx of new resources to give Superior all the tools it needs to continue to thrive.”
