Second Person Sentenced In Polk Drug House Case

POLK COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced the second of two people who were charged following a 2020 drug house bust in Polk County.

On March 20, 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence in St. Croix; locating methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug packaging materials inside the residence; and taking three people into custody.

Investigators who arrived at the residence found a male, identified as Steven Bruns, in a bathroom attempting to flush baggies down the toilet. One of the baggies was recovered and the substance inside tested positive for methamphetamine.

Investigators found a bag with 85 grams of marijuana inside the residence along with multiple items of packaging material such as baggies and a digital scale; multiple packages containing methamphetamine and marijuana and located in different areas of the residence and the property; an active security system on the property; and over $2,000 cash.

Steven Bruns and Jaqualyne Bruns were taken into custody. A third person was also taken into custody, however, criminal charges for that person related to this drug house case were not able to be located by DrydenWire, so that person’s name is not included in this post.

Steven was charged with Class H Felony Escape-Criminal Arrest, Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place, Class I Felony Possess w/Intent-THC (<=200 grams), Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property. Additional charges were filed against Steven in other Polk County Circuit Court cases including Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine; several counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping; Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia; and Misdemeanor Possess THC.

Online circuit court records show that Steven appeared most recently for a hearing on February 16, 2022, for a hearing regarding all the charges filed against him in Polk County Circuit Court. The Court accepted Steven’s plea of Guilty to his charges of Class H Felony Escape-Criminal Arrest, Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and one count of Class H Felony Bail Jumping. The remaining charges filed against Steven were dismissed but read in.

The Court ordered withheld sentences for Steven, with 3 years of probation on each conviction. Conditions of probation will require Steven to be subject to random drug testing and he must follow thru with current programming he is undergoing including AODA. Steven is prohibited from having contact with known drug users or dealers. Online court records show that Steven was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in costs, fines, and surcharges; along with $94.28 in restitution to law enforcement.

Jaqualyne was charged with Class I Felony Possession of THC (2nd+ Offense), and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia. At a hearing in December 2020 the Court accepted a guilty plea from Jaqualyne on her charge of Class I Felony Possession of THC (2nd+ Offense). Her remaining charge was dismissed but read in. The Court ordered a 2 year withheld sentence for Jaqualyne with 2 years of probation.
