Search Warrant Locates Alleged Drug House; Suspect Found After Escaping Squad Car

POLK COUNTY -- Authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in St. Croix on March 20, 2020 and arrested three individuals located inside the residence. Methamphetamine, marijuana and numerous drug related items including packaging materials were located inside the residence.

When Investigators arrived at the residence, they found a male, identified as Steven Bruns, in a bathroom attempting to flush baggies down the toilet. One baggie was recovered and the substance inside tested positive for methamphetamine.

Investigators also found two adult females inside the residence; one was identified as Jaqualyne Bruns. At the time of this post, no criminal charges were found in online circuit court records for the second female, so her name is not included in this post.

Inside of a tool bag in the living room, Investigators found a bag with 85 grams of marijuana inside. A glass marijuana pipe was also found, which had burnt residue on it that tested positive for the presence of THC.

Additional indications that the residence had been used for possible drug trafficking were allegedly found by Investigators, according to a probable cause report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. These included multiple items of packaging material such as baggies and a digital scale; multiple packages containing methamphetamine and marijuana and located in different areas of the residence and the property; an active security system on the property; and over $2,000 cash.

Jaqualyne was taken into custody and transported to the Polk County Jail. Steven was taken into custody and placed in a squad car. According to the probable cause report, Steven somehow exited the squad car, and took off on foot, with handcuffs still on him. Several hours later, Steven was located, with the handcuffs still on him but damaged, and taken to the Polk County Jail.

Steven is charged with Class H Felony Escape-Criminal Arrest, Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place, Class I Felony Possess w/Intent-THC (<=200 grams), Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property. At a hearing on March 23, 2020, the Court placed Steven on a $5,000 cash bail bond which was posted the next day. Steven is scheduled to appear again in June 2020.

Charges of Class I Felony Possession of THC (2nd+ Offense), and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia have been filed against Jaqualyne. The Court placed her on a $5,000 signature bail bond at a hearing on March 23, 2020.  Jaqualyne’s next hearing is scheduled for June 2020.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
