SAWYER COUNTY — Authorities in Sawyer County say they have received multiple calls from residents saying they have received spam calls from what appears to be coming local utility companies, according to a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.
(Press Release) — Recently the Sawyer County Sheriff Department has received numerous complaints from citizens reporting that they have received calls from individuals claiming to be from local utility companies. The scammers attempt to get the victims to give them payment or financial information and threaten to turn off their utilities if they do not comply.
The Sawyer County Sheriff Department would like to remind the public that utility companies will not operate in this manner. If you receive such a call, do not give personal information. Hang up and contact your utility company directly using the contact information listed on your utility bill, or their direct company website.
If anyone has been scammed in this manner, it is recommended you contact your local law enforcement agency.
