SPOONER, WI -- The Spooner Area School District has issued the following press release regarding the evacuation today, November 10, 2021.
Press Release
This morning, a strong epoxy-like odor was detected in the Spooner Middle School building and on the surrounding middle school grounds at about 8:40 am. Some students and staff began to experience some discomfort from the odor. Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff were evacuated to the evacuation site at 9:10 am. Once students and staff arrived at the evacuation site, some students and staff continuing to experience discomfort were transported to local area medical facilities. After consultation with city officials, the decision was made to close the Spooner Middle School for the remainder of the day as a safety precaution for students and staff. Remaining students were provided lunch and transported to the Spooner High School Auditorium, where parents were able to pick up their children beginning at 12:15 pm. Students still remaining at the Spooner High School Auditorium at the end of the day were transported home on their normal bus routes.
The Spooner Middle School will be open for regularly scheduled classes tomorrow, November 11, 2021. Students and families can access materials from the Spooner Middle School at that time.
