RUSK COUNTY -- In a statement on Tuesday, Rusk County Sheriff Jeff Wallace announced his retirement effective April 1, 2025, after 28 years in law enforcement, including a decade as sheriff, expressing gratitude to the community and confidence in the county's future leadership.

STATEMENT

After over 28 years in law enforcement, with 10 of those years serving as the Sheriff for Rusk County, I have chosen to retire effective April 1, 2025. This decision comes with many mixed emotions; working in law enforcement and with such a dedicated group of individuals has been an honor and privilege.

The Governor's office has put out a notice of vacancy for the Rusk County Sheriff's position to be filled. The application and interview process is new to Rusk County, but I am confident the changes coming will have a positive impact on our county.

I would like to thank the community and the Rusk County Sheriff's Office for their overwhelming support during my time in office.
