BARRON COUNTY -- Authorities in Rice Lake closed the Cedar Side Walking Trail while they investigated what they described as a suspicious package on Thursday afternoon, according to a press release from the Rice Lake Police Department.

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, at approximately 3:40 pm, Rice Lake Police Officers were dispatched to the Cedar Side Walking Trail near West South Street in the City of Rice Lake for a suspicious package placed on the trail.
Upon arrival a Rice Lake Police Officer was able to view a cylindrical package that had been wrapped with electrical tape and capped on both ends. The package had been placed by a tree alongside the trail.
For the safety of the public the trail was closed off and the Marathon County Bomb Squad (MCBS) was called for assistance. MCBS was able to ex-ray view the package and determined it was not an explosive device.
Rice Lake Police were assisted at the scene by the Rice Lake Fire Department and the Marathon County Bomb Squad.
