MADISON, WI -- Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) is appointing Don M. Millis of Sun Prairie to the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC), as required by 2015 Wisconsin Act 118.
“Don Millis is a top-rated attorney of Reinhart Law Firm’s Tax Practice, leading the largest property tax litigation practice in Wisconsin, the co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations group, and a lifelong Republican,” said Speaker Vos.
He started his career working in the State Senate for Senators Jim Harsdorf and Mac Davis. During his early years of private practice, Don focused on and became an expert in campaign finance law.
“I’ve known Don for decades. He’s a true conservative fighter who understands election law and knows how to get things done. I can’t think of anyone better for this position,” said Governor Tommy Thompson.
Don served as Governor Thompson’s appointee on the Tax Appeals Commission from 1995 to 2004 and was his appointee on the Elections Board from 1997 to 2001. While on the Elections Board, he advocated for eliminating the union check-off, was a supporter of universal paper ballots, opposed touch screen voting, and advocated for Voter ID laws before they finally passed.
“Don will bring with him both the intellectual firepower and courageous resolve that are both necessary to enable him to help put a stop to the lawless actions of the leftist members of WEC,” said Justice Mike Gableman.
In 2016, Don served as Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald’s appointee to the current Elections Commission. While on the commission, he voted in favor of up-to-date voter registration lists and opposed the Democrat appointees on the commission in their attempt to intervene in the Voter ID lawsuit.
“All Wisconsinites want to have confidence in the results of our elections, and they want our election officials to enforce the rule of law. I look forward to Don Millis’ service and to equal access to free, fair, and secure election administration,” said Republican Party of Wisconsin Chairman Paul Farrow.
“Don is a respected attorney whose expertise makes him an excellent addition to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. I have no doubt he will apply election laws fairly and ensure current law is being followed,” said Speaker Vos.
