WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) announced the following key legislative initiatives for Wisconsin’s Seventh District were signed in to law this year.
“From protecting the future of Great Lakes shipping and helping our maple syrup producers to giving local heroes the recognition they deserve, Northern and Western Wisconsin received some important legislative gifts at the end of the year,” said Congressman Tiffany. “It is an honor to support these key initiatives that will help move our communities forward.”
- Remembering our local veteran heroes: The United States Post Offices in New Richmond and Neillsville will be renamed in honor of Captain Harmon, Private Peirson, and Corporal Red Cloud, who courageously made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country during World War II and the Korean War. Congressman Tiffany introduced H.R. 8217 and H.R. 8218 earlier this year, and both pieces of legislation were signed in to law through year-end legislative action.
- Protecting the future of Great Lakes shipping: $113.55 million for the Army Corps of Engineers for the New Soo Lock project, to help ensure that regional shippers, farmers and manufacturers can better compete in the global economy.
- Modernizing shipyards and securing local jobs: Secured $20 million for the Department of Transportation Small Shipyard Grant Program, which will help shipyards, like Fraser Shipyards in Superior, meet the demands of our maritime industry, create and protect family-wage jobs and expand economic opportunities in the region.
- Helping maple syrup producers: Retains report language pressing federal regulators to move forward with the development of a modern and uniform definition of maple syrup to protect consumers and producers.
Among these initiatives, Congressman Tiffany’s office also helped over 620 constituents with their casework requests, met with over 160 constituents and district businesses, and held fifteen telephone town halls and in-person listening sessions this past year.
As we look forward to next year, Congressman Tiffany is eager to get to work on behalf of Northern and Western Wisconsin, and he will continue to advance these priorities, among others, next Congress.
