Citing a number of recent improvements to Pattison State Park, inclusion of a project in the biennial state budget, and the upcoming appearance by the 2021 Shakespeare in the State Parks tour, Representative Nick Milroy (D-South Range) is pleased that Pattison continues to be a strong tourism attraction in northwest Wisconsin.
“We recently received the good news that the Joint Finance Committee has included $1,458,900 in the biennial budget for replacement of the campground bathroom facility at the park,” said Milroy. “This state park is a frequently-visited place for so many, providing an excellent opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy a variety of recreational activities.”
“The projects that have been completed at Pattison State Park over the past several years have contributed to its continually increasing popularity and have made visiting the park a great experience for folks to enjoy together,” the representative continued. “According to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), since 2018, approximately $1.4 million has gone towards completed projects. These included Capital Development Projects and FEMA projects, as well as contributions by the Friends of Pattison State Park.”
The list of completed projects include but are not limited to:
- Installation of fire rings
- Emergency repair of septic system
- Trail restoration
- East Beaver and West Beaver trail access
- Reparation of historic CCC Bridge
- Replacement of 20 picnic grills
- Reroofing shelter buildings
Pattison State Park saw a record number of visitors in 2020. As a result of increased tourism, many projects are currently in the works to continue improving and repairing various parts of the park. There are currently $800,000 worth of active Capital Development Projects at Pattison State Park that are at varying stages of completion. These include but are not limited to:
- Repairing the park entrance visitor station
- Replacing campground water fountains and pads for accessibility
- Resurfacing campsites
- Conducting dam replacement study and renovations
Projects which have recently been completed within the past few weeks include but are not limited to:
- Purchasing sand and rock and filling in the eroded areas on the beach
- Removing graffiti and hazard trees on trails
- Fixing split rail fence
“I was very excited to learn that on July 10, the Summit Players Theatre will be coming to Pattison State Park as a part of its 2021 Shakespeare in the State Parks tour,” said Milroy. “After a long year of cancelled activities due to the pandemic, it is great to once again see new opportunities for people to come together and enjoy a show. I am looking forward to the Summit Players Theatre’s visit to Pattison State Park.”
In addition to their performance of The Winter’s Tale, Summit Players Theatre will also provide a 45 minute workshop for kids on Shakespearean text, theater practices, and the ways in which Shakespeare incorporated nature into his works. The workshop will be offered at 5:30 PM and the play will begin at 7:00 PM.
