Rep. Magnafici: Wisconsin Legislature Advances Crucial Election Integrity Measures

MADISON, WI -- In a landmark move, Representative Gae Magnafici, alongside her colleagues, has taken a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and fairness of future elections in Wisconsin. "The heart of our democracy lies in the trust and confidence we place in our electoral process. It is our duty, irrespective of party lines, to safeguard this sacred trust," stated Representative Magnafici.

This legislative package, aimed at fortifying our elections, encompasses several key reforms. These include the early processing of absentee ballots to prevent untimely counting, mandatory identification for all indefinitely confined voters, a prohibition on ballot alteration by officials, text notifications for absentee ballot requests and returns, stringent measures to exclude non-citizen voting, and enhanced safeguards for ballots from seniors and assisted living residents.

In an unprecedented move, the Assembly also passed three constitutional amendments. These amendments will bring the question of election reforms directly to the citizens of Wisconsin, empowering them to have a direct say in the future of their electoral system.

Representative Magnafici emphasized the need for these reforms: “Our constituents demand a transparent, consistent, and secure voting process. We are committed to delivering these improvements. It's time for these measures to receive the Governor's approval, reflecting the will of the people.”

Despite previous setbacks with similar bills being vetoed, this new attempt at passing these vital reforms reflects an unwavering commitment to election integrity. Representative Magnafici and her colleagues remain dedicated to strengthening the democratic foundations of Wisconsin's electoral process.
