Madison – Rep. Chanz Green (R-Grand View) joins his fellow Republican lawmakers in backing proposals to get tougher on crime.
“Violent crime is on the rise in Wisconsin,” said Rep. Green. “People in these communities need to have the assurance that they can be safe in their own community, and that is what these bills do here today: keep these communities safe.”
The package of bills that passed the assembly today included reforms that double penalties for reckless driving, create a mandatory minimum sentence for violent felons in possession of a firearm, provide transparency on individuals that have been granted, denied, or had their parole revoked, and define “violent crime” and “serious harm” for the bail constitutional amendment on the ballot on April 4th.
“I am enthusiastic to be working with my colleagues on building safer communities in Wisconsin,” said Rep. Green. “The governor should start taking notice of what the people of Wisconsin want for their state.”
Rep. Green also voted in favor of legislation that will allow law enforcement agencies to hire individuals who legally reside in the United States as DACA recipients to be police officers or sheriff’s deputies.
