Rep. Green Votes For The 2025-27 State Budget

Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) voted for the 2025-27 State Budget despite concerns about increased funds going to the UW System and backfilling the DNR’s Fish and Wildlife account.

“This budget process has been a tumultuous one, but the vote was necessary in order to keep the state funded for the biennium,” said Rep. Green. “The budget delivers tax cuts, invests in tourism and transportation, and supports K-12 education.”

The 2025-27 budget included the following:

  • $1.5 billion tax cut that includes a certain retirement income exemption, expansion of the second income tax bracket, and utility sales tax relief.
  • A $30 million one-time investment in tourism marketing, exceeding the amount proposed by Governor Evers.
  • County aid grants funded by tribal gaming revenue to support essential services in counties with federally recognized tribes.
  • A $150 million investment in the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program, including $30 million dedicated to local bridges and culverts.

“Despite voting for the budget, I have serious concerns about the $240 million increase in funding for the UW System, including $94 million increase for professor salaries. While there are reforms to how they teach, an increase should’ve been a non-negotiable for a Republican budget,” said Rep. Green. “I also have concerns about backfilling the DNR’s Fish and Wildlife account with $15 million before the audit is released. This brings the total transferred to $40 million over the past two budgets. We should have waited for the audit to understand how the DNR has spent the money.”
