MADISON, WI - Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after the signing of the 2023–25 State Budget, which included 51 vetoes issued by Governor Tony Evers:
“There were a lot of great things in this budget that would have benefited Northern Wisconsin. But with the stroke of a pen, funding for projects and tax relief have been taken away.
“When it comes to the tax cut, why in the world would Evers veto a cut that would have mostly benefited the middle class? Those making over $28,000 will see very minimal tax relief. To put things in perspective, 95% of the legislature's income tax cut was vetoed by a governor who says he wants to help the middle class.
“The veto will certainly create misperception in the Town of Sanborn and Ashland County. The budget provided clarity on what was needed, but the governor has now invoked worry among the residents about whether or not they will be able to keep their homes.
“We have a fish hatchery in my district that is operating at 30% capacity. The budget passed by Republicans would have provided millions of dollars to drill new wells, keep up with facility maintenance, renovate current buildings, and construct new buildings. The governor vetoed this project just to keep the money in Madison.
“This budget was made for everyone in Wisconsin. I was elected to represent Northern Wisconsin’s 74th district. I want a governor who invests in Northern Wisconsin and does not forget their priorities. I look forward to bringing those priorities to fruition in the future and working for the people up north in Madison.”
