MADISON – Representative James Edming (R-Glen Flora) honored Rusk County first responder, Martin “Marty” Huhn as the 87th Assembly District’s First Responder of the Year. Mr. Huhn was recognized along with first responders from around the state during the State Assembly’s floor session yesterday.
“It was an honor to present Marty with this award recognizing him for his over 40 years of service to the people of Rusk County as a first responder,” said Rep. Edming. “It is very rare to not see Marty at any fire or medical scene in his area and is a valued member of both Rusk County EMS and the Sheldon Fire Department. Rusk County is blessed to have such a fine first responder working to save lives in our community.”
In addition to the presentation of the First Responder of the Year awards the Assembly adopted Senate Joint Resolution 66, which declares October 28, 2019 as First Responders Appreciation Day in Wisconsin as well as Senate Bill 266 which provides health insurance benefits to the families of fallen law enforcement officers and EMS who are killed in the line of duty. Current law already provides this benefit to the families of fallen firefighters.
“In addition to recognizing the incredible first responders like Marty yesterday I was pleased to join together with my colleagues to recognize all our state’s first responders for the important work they do for our communities,” said Rep. Edming. “Also, I believe it was fitting that on the day we honored our state’s first responders that we also passed legislation to ensure that the families of fallen first responders will continue to receive health insurance benefits if the worst should happen.”
The 87th Assembly District includes portions of Clark, Marathon, Rusk, Sawyer and Taylor Counties. Marty was joined at the Capitol for the ceremony by his son Brian Huhn and daughter Deb Tinder.
