MADISON, WI -- Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after Governor Evers vetoed Assembly Bills 141 and 142:
“The governor vetoing these two bills that protect consumer choice is quite predictable and disappointing at the same time. These bills would just prevent runaway state bureaucrats and local governments from banning the sale or use of devices or motor vehicles based on their source of energy.
“The whole point of a free market is to make sure that the consumer has access to affordable and reliable products. Whether you choose gas or electric is a consumer choice, not one that should be mandated by the government. But Governor Evers wants you to be part of his ‘clean energy’ solution, which would eliminate reliable and affordable natural gas.
“At the end of the day, Wisconsin residents should have the freedom to choose what best fits their needs when it comes to everyday appliances and motor vehicles.”
Minnesota has already proposed two bills, H.F. 1715 and 1716, that would block the sale of common landscaping appliances like lawn mowers and chainsaws, as well as ice-resurfacing machines such as Zambonis.
California and many other states, like Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington, have already banned or plan to ban sales of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
