WASHBURN COUNTY (DrydenWire) – The Washburn County Board has officially welcomed Randi Swanson as the new District 19 Supervisor following the resignation of Brian Melton. Swanson was sworn in during the Board’s monthly meeting on January 21, 2025, after being selected by County Board Chair Tim Kessler. The Board ratified her appointment.
The position became vacant when Brian Melton, who was first elected in 2022 and re-elected in April 2024, resigned effective November 9, 2024. His departure created an opportunity for a dedicated resident to serve the district. In December 2024, the County called for candidates to submit their letters of interest, and Chair Kessler selected Swanson.
Swanson, a lifelong resident of Washburn County, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the new role. “I have been a lifelong resident of Washburn County, and in the past, have worked for Washburn County government in a few different capacities. I also have many years of business experience in private sector work,” she said.
Swanson shared that serving on the County Board has been a long-held goal. “Since 2001, I had set a goal to serve on the Washburn County Board at some point in my life,” she explained. She also emphasized her preparedness for the role, stating, “I have many years of personal and professional experiences that prepare me to be a reasonable and fiscally responsible decision-maker.”
Swanson is eager to contribute to the Board’s work and make a positive impact, telling DrydenWire, "I am grateful for this opportunity to serve our citizens of Washburn County."
Swanson will serve the remainder of the current term, which runs through April 2026.
