One-Vehicle Crash Results In One Fatality; Second Person Left With Severe Injuries

POLK COUNTY -- Authorities in Polk County say that on Wednesday, October 21st, 2020, at 6p, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center began receiving calls regarding a one-vehicle crash on Hwy 87, just to the South of County Road I, in the Town of St Croix Falls.

Upon the arrival of Law Enforcement and First Responder units, it was found that a 2007 Chevrolet HHR was southbound on Hwy 87, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. As the vehicle passed the intersection of County Road I, the vehicle appears to have steered hard to the left. The vehicle crossed the northbound travel lane and entered the east ditch. Upon entering the ditch, the vehicle rolled over. The vehicle then struck a tree on its roof, causing severe damage to the top of the vehicle.

Authorities say that the driver sustained severe injuries and died at the crash scene. The passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported by air ambulance from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. His condition is unknown at this time.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at this crash scene by the St Croix Falls Police Department, the Cushing and St Croix Falls Fire Departments, Life Link III air ambulance, Lakes Area EMS, and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
