The Nursing Assistant Technical Diploma at Northwood Technical College is changing to a 90-hour program, which will be effective as of June 1, 2022, for incoming students.
Prior to Covid, Northwood Tech had run a 120-hour course per regulations mandated by the State of Wisconsin. During Covid, the program at Northwood Tech had been changed to a 75-hour Emergency Training in accordance with the options granted by the State of Wisconsin regarding program regulations.
After input from instructors and the advisory committee at Northwood Tech, it was decided that the Nursing Assistant Program would move back to the permanent program with a 90-hour training course rather than the state mandated 75-hour course. With the program being moved back to its permanent status, students will also be back out in the field to complete hands-on experience in the long-term care facilities for clinicals. Due to Covid restrictions, Northwood Tech Nursing Assistant students had not been out in the field for clinicals since March 2020.
In response to the news of the program changes and move back to working in care facilities, Northwood Tech Nursing Assistant Program Director Stephanie Johnson stated, “Our instructors are excited to move to the 90-hour program and to be back in the long-term care facilities.”
For anyone interested in the Nursing Assistant Program at Northwood Tech, the program has classes beginning July 5 at the Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, and Superior campus locations, as well as the Hayward Outreach Center. There will also be a class beginning on August 1 at all four campus locations. Campus-based classes have a hybrid option for students to attend the lecture remotely, but they are still required to be in-person for lab and clinical work.
