National Public Health Week

SHELL LAKE -- In honor of National Public Health Week, April 1st – April 7th, the Washburn County Health Department would like to provide information on the local efforts that are being done within Washburn County surrounding community health. National Public Health Week is an annual week of recognition that has been hosted by the American Public Health Association for more than 25 years.

Before National Public Health Week begins, the Washburn County Health Department would like to recognize the many Washburn County organizations that are dedicated to improving the health of our communities. The efforts of these organizations do not go unnoticed, and our department has been fortunate to work alongside so many dedicated and wonderful groups. Thank you to everyone who has worked to positively impact the health of Washburn County!

National Public Health Week is recognized as a time to acknowledge the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation. Throughout this week, several aspects of public health will be highlighted, and resources will be provided. We are encouraging Washburn County community members to join in on the National Public Health Week education.

Washburn County Health Department offers a variety of programs and services to community members. Our staff includes public health nurses, a health educator, and a fiscal clerk. We offer services ranging from immunizations to communicable disease prevention, to radon test kits, and lots more in between.

In addition to these services, the Washburn County Health Department is dedicated to improving the conditions where people live, work, and play which in turn impact health. These include conditions like housing, water quality, community connectedness, and so many others. Our department is involved in several coalitions and workgroups, working with other stakeholders to address these community conditions. Washburn County is ranked #34 in the state of Wisconsin in the 2023 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps ranking system. This organization ranks counties in every state in the U.S. based on the social factors that influence health and health outcomes. Community members can learn more here.
