POLK COUNTY - A semi-truck vs car crash on Wednesday afternoon in Polk County has resulted in a fatality.

According to Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 3:37p, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a report of a semi-truck vs car crash at the intersection of US Hwy 8 and State Hwy 46 north junction in the town of Balsam Lake.
Preliminary investigation indicates that an eastbound passenger car, (single occupant) turned left into the path of a westbound semi-truck.

The operator of the car was airlifted to Regions Hospital in Minnesota but succumbed to his injuries from the crash.
The victim’s name will be released at a later date.
The operator of the semi was not injured in the crash.

Sheriff Waak says that this crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
This is the 5th Traffic Fatality in Polk County in 2023, according to Sheriff Waak.
