Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of Rural Clayton Resident

POLK COUNTY - A motorcycle crash on September 8, 2023, has taken a tragic turn as the operator, 68-year-old Gregory Schnell from Rural Clayton, Wisconsin, succumbed to his severe injuries on September 23, 2023, at Regions Hospital. The incident marked the 12th traffic fatality in Polk County for the year 2023.

According a press release, on September 8, 2023, at 5:38p, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle crash on County Road D, near the intersection of 30th Street in rural Clayton, WI. The Motorcyclist was operating a 2005 Big Dog Custom Chopper north on County Road D and went off the curve at the intersection on 30th Street. The operator was not wearing a helmet and was transported by Air Ambulance to Regions Hospital with severe injuries.

On September 23, 2023, the operator of that motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at Regions Hospital. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the operator was 68-year-old Gregory Schnell from Rural Clayton, Wisconsin.

Assisting the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with this crash was Clayton Police Department, Clayton Fire Department, Apple River Fire Department, Clear Lake Ambulance, Life Link Air Ambulance, and the Polk County Medical Examiner.

This is the 12th traffic fatality in 2023.
