Florida's Pro-Abortion Ballot Initiative Projected To Fail In First Since Roe Was Overturned

A measure that would have enshrined protections for abortion rights in Florida's state constitution failed to reach the 60% threshold needed to pass, ABC News projects.

Florida has a six-week abortion ban in effect, with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother. If it had been approved, the provision would have allowed abortions to resume in a state that was a key access point for abortion care for women across the South before the state's ban went into effect in April.

Wisconsin Voters OK Changes To Constitutional Language On Citizens And Voting

Wisconsin voters have agreed to amend language in the state’s constitution that limits voting to U.S. citizens.

Wisconsin’s Constitution already requires voters to be U.S. citizens through language that specifies, “Every United States citizen age 18 or older who is a resident of an election district in this state is a qualified elector of that district.”

The proposal passed by voters Tuesday amends that language and changes the word “every” in that sentence to “only.” It also adds a clause spelling out that the citizenship requirement applies to national, state and local elections.

Republicans Hold Majority In Wisconsin Legislature, Citizen Voting Measure Passes

Republicans emerged from the Nov. 5 election still in complete control of the Wisconsin Legislature, overcoming new district boundaries that Democrats had hoped would give them a chance at finally making major inroads in both chambers.

Baldwin Declares Victory As Milwaukee Absentee Ballots Push Her Into Lead Over Hovde

Dem U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin early this morning declared victory after Milwaukee’s final tally of its absentee ballots pushed her to a nearly 16,000-vote lead over GOP businessman Eric Hovde.

Baldwin’s campaign said it expected that margin to grow as communities such as Oshkosh and Racine reported their final results.

With 97% of precincts reporting, Baldwin had 49.2% of the vote, compared to Hovde’s 48.7%. That was a margin of just less than 16,000 votes.

Republican US Rep. Bryan Steil Wins Reelection Bid For Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District

Republican U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil won his reelection bid Tuesday and will serve a fourth term as the representative for the state’s 1st Congressional District.

Steil beat Democrat Peter Barca in a race that saw no shortage of attacks. The Associated Press called the race shortly after 11 p.m. With 76 percent of the vote in, Steil had 55.8 percent of the vote, while Barca, a former longtime member of the Wisconsin Assembly who was previously elected to Congress in 1993, received 42.1 percent.

Trump-Backed Republican Tony Wied Wins A Northeastern Wisconsin Congressional District

A first-term Wisconsin Republican who was in the nation’s Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection was vying for a second term Tuesday, while another candidate running with the backing of former President Donald Trump kept an open district under GOP control.

A former Democratic congressman and state lawmaker was also trying to defeat a Republican in southeast Wisconsin.
