Florida Sheriff Fed Up With School Shooting Hoaxes Posts Boy's Mugshot To Social Media

A Florida sheriff fed up with a spate of false school shooting threats is taking a new tactic to try get through to students and their parents: he's posting the mugshot of any offender on social media.

“Since parents, you don’t want to raise your kids, I’m going to start raising them," Chitwood said. "Every time we make an arrest, your kid’s photo is going to be put out there. And if I can do it, I’m going to perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kid’s up to.”

Starbucks North America Head Retires After Five Months In The Role

Starbucks said on Monday that its North America CEO, Michael Conway, had decided to retire after about 11 years at the coffee chain. The move comes amid newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer Brian Niccol’s turnaround plan focusing on Starbucks’ operations in the U.S.

Conway assumed the role as North America CEO in April this year as the company was grappling with weak demand for its pricey lattes in the U.S.

Judge Rejects Kennedy Request To Be Removed From Wisconsin Presidential Ballot

A Dane County judge today rejected Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s request to be removed from Wisconsin’s presidential ballot.

A Kennedy attorney said immediately after today’s hearing he plans to appeal.

Judge Stephen Ehlke based his ruling on a state law that doesn’t allow candidates who file nomination papers to withdraw them. That statute only allows a candidate to be removed from the ballot due to death, and Ehlke found Kennedy was essentially asking the court to create an exception to that requirement for him.

Short On Fixes For Prison Problems, Wisconsin Weighs Proposals For Independent Oversight

Wisconsin lawmakers have offered few remedies for deteriorating prison conditions spotlighted in 2024 by investigative journalism, litigation surrounding extended lockdowns and criminal charges against nine Waupun prison officials following a string of inmate deaths.

But prisoner rights advocates remain energized by the recent attention. They are calling for the creation of an independent ombudsman to investigate concerns inside prisons and to study solutions.

Appleton Woman Charged With Fatally Stabbing Boyfriend

A woman was formally charged Monday with stabbing her boyfriend to death in July.

Last Friday, investigators from the Appleton Police Department confined a 39-year-old Appleton woman identified as Samantha J. Krebs at the Outagamie County Jail. Police said Krebs has been in custody since July.

Krebs was formally charged with one count of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in court Monday.

Survey: Demand For Child Care Outpaces Providers’ Capacity

A state survey found nearly 60 percent of child care providers said they had unused capacity. But adding those potential spots still wouldn’t be enough to meet the current demand for care in Wisconsin, according to the report.

The survey collected voluntary responses from child care providers who applied for Child Care Counts, a state subsidy program created using federal COVID-19 recovery dollars.
