Arm's CEO says AI could help humanity cure cancer within our lifetimes. First, the industry needs to figure out how to make enough chips to power it.

"I've always thought that the killer app for AI is health," Rene Haas said in an interview with the BBC released on Tuesday. "AI is going to not only shorten the amount of time that those drugs can be invented, it's going to shorten the amount of time that you test them."

GLP-1 Prescriptions For Kids Up More Than 30,000% Since 2019

Over the last seven years, GLP-1 medication use in children age 8 to 11 has increased by nearly 31,000%, according to a new NYU Langone Health study.

The FDA has not approved any GLP-1 medication for children under 12, but in drastic circumstances, doctors have prescribed it off-label.

Researchers analyzed health records for 3,520,531 children with obesity but without diabetes. The share of those children ages 8 to 11 who were prescribed a GLP-1 rose from 0.03% in 2019 to 9.3% in 2026 — a 310-fold increase. Kids with obesity-related conditions, from high cholesterol to sleep apnea, were substantially more likely to be prescribed the drugs than those without.

Wisconsin Republicans Are Heading To A Midterm Convention. What Is That?

This week, a few dozen Wisconsin Republicans will travel south to Dallas for their party’s midterm convention. There, they’ll join up with fellow Republicans from around the country, hear speeches from Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump, and attend events about policy priorities and the key races this November.

But this won’t be like two years ago, when Republicans from around the country came to Milwaukee to formally nominate Trump for reelection. In fact, it’s an event that hasn’t been held in this country in decades.

Instead, it’s more of a fundraiser and rally while Republicans are nervous about their chances in the November midterm elections, said James McCann, a political scientist at Purdue University.

Wisconsin Lawmaker Wants Total Screen Ban Through Second Grade

While many schools in Wisconsin are banning cellphones in their classrooms, one state lawmaker wants to go further.

State Rep. David Steffen, R-Howard, this week introduced a plan that would ban all screens for kids in all classrooms through the second grade.

“The research is clear; our youngest students have the least to gain from screens in the classroom and the most to lose. Prioritizing digital learning over hands-on activities comes at a cost, especially during early development. Studies show that everything from language skills to attention span to math and reading outcomes are compromised by screen time during younger years,” Steffen said.

Pfaff Tells ‘UpFront’ Dems Must Focus On ‘Bread And Butter’ Issues To Win In November

State Sen. Brad Pfaff says Democrats must focus on “bread and butter affordability issues” in order to unite and win in November as he hosted numerous candidates at his annual corn roast at the La Crosse County Fairgrounds.

“I think that is front and center,” Pfaff said on WISN 12’s “UpFront,” which is produced in partnership with WisPolitics. “One thing that Rep. (Francesca) Hong, she did capture a lot of attention obviously when we heard about Thanksgiving and things like that, but I really think the underlying message was the wealth inequality and the economic concerns that are taking place here in Wisconsin.”

The corn roast, now in its 25th year, was first created by former U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, and has continued under Pfaff, a former aide to the congressman. This year’s event included appearances from David Crowley, Rebecca Cooke and Ben Wikler, all urging a message of unity after the fractured primary for governor.

Today marks the unofficial end of summer, or at least the summer tourism season for the Northwoods. In Arbor Vitae, Minocqua, and Hazelhurst, locals gathered for their annual tradition of saying farewell to their summer neighbors.

While tourists head south with their campers, boats, and memories of summer, those staying here say: thank you, and see you next year.
