Biden Weighs Move To Unlock Legal Status For Some Unauthorized Immigrants

President Biden's administration is weighing a far-reaching move that would unlock temporary legal status and potentially a path to American citizenship for hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally, five people familiar with the internal discussions told CBS News.

The plan under consideration by the White House would give work permits and deportation protections to certain unauthorized immigrants through the immigration parole authority, as long as they have spouses who are American citizens, the sources said. The policy, known as "parole in place," could also make beneficiaries eligible for permanent U.S. residency and eventually even citizenship, by helping them clear hurdles in U.S. law.

Within days of the transfer, the Chamber spent $381,000 on “Media Advertisement – Energy and Taxes – Mentioning Rep. Peter Meijer,” according to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Dane County Judge Susan Crawford Announces 2025 Run For The Wisconsin Supreme Court

Dane County Judge Susan Crawford today formally launched her campaign for the state Supreme Court next year, looking to protect liberals’ 4-3 majority.

Crawford is seeking to succeed fellow progressive Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, who announced earlier this year she had decided against seeking a fourth 10-year term on the court.

So far, Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Brad Schimel, a former GOP attorney general, is the only candidate to have formally entered the spring race. Fellow conservative Maria Lazar, a judge on the 2nd District Court of Appeals who worked under Schimel at the state Department of Justice, has been considering a run.

Electronic Health Records Go Back Online At Wisconsin Ascension Hospitals

Electronic health records at the health care company Ascension are back online at Wisconsin hospitals about a month after a cyber attack forced the company to go offline, a company spokesperson said Monday.

The spokesperson told WPR most hospital departments, physician offices and clinics may now use electronic documentation, charting and ordering systems. Ascension is still working to restore “other ancillary technology systems.”

The same Democrat who led the Wisconsin Elections Commission during the contested 2020 presidential election will be back in the helm in the swing state in 2024 after being unanimously elected Monday by the bipartisan panel.

Ann Jacobs was the only commission member nominated to serve as chair, reprising the role she had from 2020 to 2022. The unanimous vote included one from a Republican commissioner who attempted to cast Wisconsin’s electoral votes for Donald Trump in 2020 even though he lost the state.

At least 12 people were injured when gunfire broke out on the rooftop of an apartment building in Madison, Wisconsin – one of three separate shootings that left one person dead and more than a dozen injured in the city over the weekend.

A dozen victims – some as young as 14 years old – have now reported injuries after the rooftop shooting early Sunday morning, and two are still hospitalized, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said in a news conference Monday. “We had a very violent weekend in Madison,” Barnes told reporters.

A Luxemburg man convicted of the worst case of child abuse a doctor said he’d ever seen was sentenced Monday to at least 25 years behind bars.

Alan Finch, 35, pleaded no contest in February to three of the five charges against him: repeated acts of physical abuse to a child causing great bodily harm, chronic neglect of a child with the consequence of great bodily harm, and causing mental harm to a child, all as party to the crime.
