Senators in both parties are warning the expanded surveillance authority under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) could lapse after Friday because of a battle over amending the House bill, which has become a target of conservative Republicans and some Democrats.

Opponents of the bill could drag the Senate debate past the 11:59 p.m. Friday deadline, which threatens to cause a lapse in warrantless surveillance authority that some lawmakers warn could leave the nation exposed to an attack at a dangerous time.

Mike Johnson Takes Risk On Separating Israel And Ukraine Aid

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday unveiled a proposal for sending wartime aid to Israel and Ukraine as he seeks to fend off a right-wing revolt that could put his leadership in peril.

The Louisiana Republican said he plans to put four separate bills on the floor, separating aid for Israel with assistance for Ukraine, which has faced fierce pushback among some members of his conference. A third measure includes aid for Taiwan and the final bill addresses other Republican foreign policy demands.

U.S. Officials Expect Israeli Response To Iran Strikes Will Be Limited

U.S. officials expect a possible Israeli response to Iran’s attack over the weekend to be limited in scope and most likely involve strikes against Iranian military forces and Iranian-backed proxies outside Iran, four U.S. officials told NBC News.

The U.S. assessment is based on conversations between U.S. and Israeli officials that happened before Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night.

DOJ To Sue Ticketmaster Parent Live Nation For Antitrust Violations

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is planning to sue Live Nation, one of the largest ticketing and live events companies in the country, on antitrust grounds, a regulatory source familiar with the DOJ's plans told Axios.

The company faced intense scrutiny from lawmakers and consumer advocacy groups over botched ticket sales for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in late 2022.

That fiasco highlighted the firm's dominance, although the DOJ was reportedly already investigating the company.

Caitlin Clark is officially a pro.

Clark, the record-breaking face of women's college basketball, was selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft Monday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

The draft was held with fans for the first time since the 2014-2016 iterations of the event. Tickets for 1,000 spectators sold out within 15 minutes of going on sale a few months ago.

Colombian National Extradited To Face International Narcotics-Trafficking Conspiracy Charge

Gregory J. Haanstad, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced the extradition of Gabriel Zuñiga (a/k/a “Ito,” a/k/a “Hito,” “Captain Ito,” a/k/a “Capi”) from Colombia based on a superseding indictment returned in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. On April 11, 2024, Zuñiga had his initial appearance and arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge William E. Duffin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On April 15, 2024, Judge Duffin ordered that Zuñiga be detained pending trial.

The DEA Port-au-Prince Country Office and the DEA Milwaukee Field Office investigated this case.

Death Investigation In Park Falls, Wis.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating a death in Park Falls, Wis. that occurred on the afternoon of, April 13, 2024.

At approximately 4:09 p.m., officers with the Park Falls Police Department responded to reports of shots fired near the 600 block of 2nd Avenue North in Park Falls. When they arrived, officers found a deceased adult with multiple gunshot wounds. A handgun was found at the scene. A suspect has been taken into custody.

There is no danger to the public at this time.

Lawsuit Asks Wisconsin Supreme Court To Strike Down Governor's 400-Year Veto

Attorneys with Wisconsin’s largest business lobbying group asked the state Supreme Court on April 15 to strike down Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ use of a partial veto to lock in a school funding increase for the next 400 years.

The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce Litigation Center filed the petition on behalf of two taxpayers. It will be up to the liberal-controlled Supreme Court to decide whether to hear the case before it goes through lower courts, which is where cases typically start.
