House Republicans on Wednesday voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), a rare reprimand of a sitting lawmaker that the GOP conference delivered as a rebuke for his efforts against former President Trump.

The vote — 213-209-6 — is the culmination of a week-long push led by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), which was stymied last week when a band of Republicans joined Democrats in blocking a censure resolution from coming to the floor for a vote. It advanced on Wednesday after Luna made changes to the measure.

A car smelling like marijuana is enough for police in Wisconsin to justify searching a person in the vehicle, even though substances legal in the state can smell the same, the state Supreme Court said on June 20.

The court’s conservative majority ruled 4-3 that Marshfield police had grounds to search the driver of a vehicle that smelled like marijuana, overturning lower court rulings that said officers couldn’t be sure that what they smelled was not CBD, a legal, marijuana-derived substance. The scents of CBD and marijuana are indistinguishable.

Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) released the following statement after voting to censure and allow the House Ethics Committee to investigate Congressman Adam Schiff (CA-30).

Chicago Man Sentenced To 10 Years For Cocaine Conspiracy

Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Darryl McDonald, 39, Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to ten years in prison for conspiring to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine. McDonald pleaded guilty to this charge on March 15, 2023.

The government’s investigation revealed that McDonald, who resided in Chicago, began providing cocaine to various people for redistribution around the Madison, Wisconsin area. One source of information (SOI) stated that she began transporting cocaine to the Madison area from Chicago for McDonald in 2016. She made numerous trips where she transported cocaine for McDonald and received approximately $1,500 per trip. The arrangement between the SOI and the defendant went on for several years until the SOI was arrested in May 2018 in Illinois with approximately a half-kilogram of cocaine.

Assembly Approves Alcohol Regulation Overhaul On 90-4 Bipartisan Vote

The Assembly today approved 90-4 legislation to overhaul Wisconsin’s three-tiered alcohol industry and create a new Division of Alcohol Beverages within the Department of Revenue.

AB 304 has drawn bipartisan support, though there has been some pushback from wedding barns due to a requirement that they obtain a Class B liquor license if they hold more than six events per year.

Most wedding barns currently do not touch the alcohol sales part of the event business, instead contracting with outside vendors that bring everything needed to serve drinks. Some wedding barn owners have said requiring them to get liquor licenses would put them out of business.

WisDOT Seeks Public Comment On Specialty License Plate Request From Pet Advocacy Group

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) received an application requesting a new specialty license plate from an organization that promotes the spaying, neutering and adoption of cats and dogs in Wisconsin.

The plates will feature “Spay, Neuter, Adopt.” Proceeds from the $25 donation, in addition to the regular registration fee, for the specialty license plate will go to The Fix Is In, Inc. This is a non-profit organization that provides financial and logistical support for the spay/neuter of cats and dogs in Wisconsin. The organization’s goal is to reduce the number of cats and dogs taken in by Wisconsin shelters and to reduce the number of animals that do not make it to safe shelter and suffer needlessly due to overpopulation.
