U.S. Capitol Briefly Evacuated Over Washington Nationals Pregame Parachute Show

A Washington Nationals pregame display involving U.S. Army parachutists briefly caused an evacuation at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. U.S. Capitol Police around 6:30 p.m. sent an alarming notice to Capitol Hill staff that it was "tracking an aircraft that poses a probable threat to the Capitol Complex."

Almost half of Americans -- 137 million people -- are experiencing more days of "very unhealthy" and "hazardous" air quality than in the previous two decades combined, according to a report published this week by the American Lung Association.

The annual "State of the Air" report looked at Americans' exposure to two types of air pollution: ozone, also known as "smog," and particle pollution, also known as "soot." It found that over 63 million Americans are now impacted by deadly particle pollution, an increase of nearly 9 million people from previous years.

For the second time in state history, Wisconsin lawmakers held a public hearing on a bill that would legalize medical marijuana.

Wednesday's hearing marked the first time since Republicans took control of the legislature in 2011 any type of marijuana legalization measure received a public hearing. The only other hearing came under Democrats in 2009.

Wisconsin Rapids Man Sentenced To 12 Years For Methamphetamine Trafficking

David Shamont Lindsey, 38, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 12 years in federal prison for distributing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. Lindsey pleaded guilty to this charge on January 24, 2022.

An investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies in central Wisconsin determined that Lindsey distributed substantial amounts of methamphetamine in the Wisconsin Rapids area for a number of years. In May 2019, he was recorded by law enforcement delivering nearly 4 ounces of methamphetamine to a customer in Plover, Wisconsin. In August 2019, Lindsey was stopped by the Utah Highway Patrol as he returned to Wisconsin from the West Coast with 6 ½ pounds of methamphetamine concealed in a large PVC tube hidden in his car. Lindsey intended to distribute the methamphetamine in Wisconsin.
