After a frustrating 1-1 draw against Wales, this World Cup isn’t about to get any easier for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT).

A promising first-half performance and a well-taken goal from Timothy Weah was canceled out by Gareth Bale’s late penalty on Monday as the youthful USMNT team was denied victory at the start of its campaign in Qatar.

Next up is England, the favorite to top Group B having thrashed Iran 6-2 earlier this week – an ominous sign for Wales and the USMNT in their bids to qualify for the knockout stages.

Now it appears there’s a way to please both: promoting farming methods that help growers use less fertilizer.

Democrats and Republicans have been bitterly divided over whether measures to address climate change should be part of the half-trillion-dollar farm bill that Congress will write next year. But a push to include funding for so-called regenerative agriculture is appealing to GOP lawmakers who are watching farmers contend with sky-high fertilizer prices and other mounting costs.

Donald Trump Sued As New York Adult Survivors Act Takes Effect

Writer E Jean Carroll has sued Donald Trump in the US state of New York for allegedly raping her in the 1990s.

Ms Carroll, 78, is among the first to sue under the Adult Survivors Act, which came into effect on Thursday.

The state law allows a one-year period for victims to file sexual assault lawsuits in New York over claims that would have otherwise exceeded statute limitations.

The former president has denied the allegations against him.

Ms Carroll alleges the attack took place in a New York luxury department store dressing room 27 years ago.

Biden Mulls 2024 Plans As Democrats Weigh Generational Shift

President Biden plans to use some time over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to decide whether he wants to run for reelection, surrounding himself with family as he assesses his political future while giving himself a deadline of early next year to officially announce.

Biden, who just turned 80, remains in many Democrats’ minds the party’s best shot at retaining the White House in 2024. Still, he’s weighing his next steps at a time when several contemporaries in the party have stepped down from top roles to make room for a new generation of leaders.

For Biden, coming off a stronger-than-expected midterm result for Democrats is sure to factor heavily in the decision, along with the potential for a rematch against former President Trump. And while the White House has insisted for months Biden plans to run again, the president has left the door open to making a final decision after discussing with family during the holidays.

Wisconsin Falls To No. 3 Kansas 69-68 In Overtime Of Battle 4 Atlantis Semifinals

Wisconsin came back from being down fifteen points in the second half to force overtime against No. 3 Kansas in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals. Bobby Pettiford Jr. scored the game-winning bucket for Kansas in overtime as the Jayhawks won 69-68.

Senior Tyler Wahl went on his own 9-0 run at the end of the second half to give Wisconsin the lead and help force overtime. Wahl had a team-high 23 points and ten rebounds.

Freshman Connor Essegian continued his impressive start to the season with 17 points and five rebounds. Junior Max Klesmit contributed 13 points and went 2-3 from three-point range.

Aaron Rodgers Says He’s Been Playing With Broken Thumb

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers acknowledged Wednesday that he’s been playing with a broken thumb for the past six weeks.

Rodgers hurt his thumb Oct. 9 during a foiled Hail Mary attempt on the final play of the Packers’ 27-22 loss to the New York Giants in London. Although the Packers’ injury report has listed Rodgers with a thumb issue ever since, the four-time MVP hadn’t said publicly that it was broken.

“It’s definitely a challenge, but the days off helped,” Rodgers said. “I’m feeling better this week.”

Superior Diocese Releases Names Of Clergy With Credible Claims Of Child Sex Abuse

The Catholic Diocese of Superior has released names of almost two dozen clergy that it says have had credible claims of sexually abusing minors made against them, including one placed on leave from the ministry as recently as September.

The diocese published 23 names of alleged abusers on its website Tuesday evening. Many of the allegations refer to abuse that took place 30 years ago or more. However, records show Father James Bartelme, 71, is on administrative leave after being removed Sept. 8 for alleged abuse that took place in Superior from 1990 to 1991.

The website for the diocese shows Bartelme retired in 2016. He was assigned to parishes in Chetek, Barron, Cameron and Strickland. Online court records show no charges have been filed against Bartelme.

The diocese said the list stems from three separate reviews of clergy files, including one analysis by private security consulting firm Defenbaugh & Associates, Inc. Bishop James P. Powers of the Catholic Diocese of Superior apologized on behalf of the church and said he prays for healing for survivors of abuse, their families and friends.

DNR Research Scientist Named Fisheries Biologist Of The Year

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is pleased to announce that Coldwater Fisheries Research Scientist, Dr. Matthew Mitro, was awarded Fisheries Biologist of the Year by the Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (MAFWA) at their annual meeting earlier this year.

This award is given to an individual who has shown “unparalleled initiative towards the better understanding of fishes and their conservation.” There is no better way to describe Dr. Mitro and his extensive 19 years of fisheries research with the DNR. His work focuses on inland trout species, and he has been essential to many trout projects, including:

long-term trout and stream habitat monitoring study
research on gill lice infecting brook trout
contributing to the trout and beaver management plans
protocol development for age estimation in brown trout and brook trout
modeling changes in stream temperature and trout distribution in response to climate change

“I always had a personal interest in trout, as trout were one of the first fish I ever fished for as a kid,” said Dr. Mitro. “They are beautiful fish. They have a fascinating life history and are important indicators of wider environmental health.”
