Minong Man Sentenced For Possession Of Child P*rnography

WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced James Sorchych, of Minong, WI, for convictions of possession of child p*rnography.

Charges were filed against Sorchych in February 2021 following an investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) into cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Sorchych admitted to viewing child p*rnography and told the special agents that they would potentially find child p*rnography on multiple electronic devices in his possession, including an iPhone, tablet, laptops, and other cell phones.

Sorchych allegedly stated that he preferred viewing child p*rnography containing female children between the ages of 7 and 11. He went on to say that he was usually under the influence of methamphetamine when he would view child p*rnography.

The criminal complaint filed against Sorchych states that a forensic examination of the electronic devices taken from Sorchych’s residence during the search warrant also revealed multiple videos of children as young as toddlers being subjected to sexually explicit activity.

Sorchych was charged with one count of Class C Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Child - distribute any recording of a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct; and five counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child P*rnography.

Sorchych appeared on February 7, 2022, for a plea hearing, and pleaded guilty to two counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child P*rnography. The Court accepted his plea and found him Guilty. The remaining counts filed against Sorchych were dismissed and/or read in.

At a hearing in April 2022, the Hon. Angeline Winton ordered Sorchych to serve two 6-year prison sentences concurrently; with 3 years of initial confinement to be followed by 3 years of extended supervision.
