Five school districts in the 73rd Assembly District were recently awarded infrastructure grants from the Department of Administration’s (DOA) Technology for Educational ACHievement (TEACH) Program. Those recipients were: Northwood School District, School District of Maple, School District of Superior, Solon Springs School District, and Spooner Area School District.
“It’s exciting to see so many school districts from Northwestern Wisconsin be awarded TEACH grants. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we ensure underserved rural school districts have access to and the ability to fully utilize technology,” said Rep. Nick Milroy (D-South Range).
Milroy continued, “It’s imperative that we support our schools at every opportunity. No student should be left behind because their school district lacks the tools needed to enhance their educational experience.”
“I look forward to seeing the ways in which these grants will open doors for students and teachers throughout the district,” Milroy added.
According to the DOA, 141 school districts and libraries across the state are set to receive approximately $3 million in 2021 TEACH Information Technology Infrastructure grants. Each year, TEACH grants are awarded to eligible school districts and libraries to expand upon the capacity of rural communities to utilize technology. This year, grant requests exceeded available funds.
Governor Evers’ 2021-23 biennial budget includes a provision to extend the sunset for awarding TEACH infrastructure grant from June 30, 2021 to June 30, 2025.
