Man Sentenced On Heroin Charges In Sawyer County

SAWYER COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a man on a conviction in Sawyer County Circuit Court for Class F Felony Possess w/Intent-Heroin (<=3g).

DrydenWire published a press release in July 2020 from the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department regarding the arrest of James Fairbanks following the execution of a search warrant.

During the search, officers seized multiple items used for drug trafficking and drug paraphernalia. Also seized were multiple prepackaged bindles of heroin along with cash. Fairbanks was taken into custody and charges were filed against him including Class F Felony Possess w/Intent-Heroin (<=3g); Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine; and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

At a recent hearing, the Court accepted Fairbanks’ plea of no contest to his charge of Class F Felony Possess w/Intent-Heroin (<=3g). The remaining charges against Fairbanks were dismissed but read in according to online circuit court records.

The Court ordered a 12-year sentence for Fairbanks; 7 years of initial confinement in state prison to be followed by 5 years of extended supervision. Fairbanks was ordered to pay over $2,000 in costs, fines, and restitution.

Conditions of supervision will require Fairbanks to complete any and all counseling recommended by his probation and parole agent.
