Man Found Deceased After Truck Discovered Submerged In Chippewa River

RUSK COUNTY — A 71-year-old man from Stanley was found deceased inside a submerged vehicle in the Chippewa River, according to a press release from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025 at about 4:15PM the Rusk County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a family who was boating on the Chippewa River stating there was a truck in the water that was upside down, fully submerged and they didn't know if anyone was still inside.

First responders located a lone male inside the truck deceased.

That male was identified as Thomas Wadzinski, 71 years old from Stanley, WI.

Based on evidence at the scene, it appeared the truck was Eastbound, left the roadway on CTH D near Tower Rd and entered the Chippewa River without breaking or using any evasive steering.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Chippewa County Dive Team, Sheldon Ambulance, Sheldon Fire Dept, Bruce Fire Dept, Lifelink Helicopter, Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, Cornell Ambulance, Rusk County Highway Dept and the Rusk County Medical Examiner.
